Imagine not knowing what a birthday party is.
Can you imagine, not knowing what day you were born?
Thing about it for a moment …
This was reality in my life when I was a young boy. We did not know what a birthday party was. My parents didn’t know what my actual date of birth was.
I had no birth certificate.
These are some of the memories that come to me when I am asked about what our favourite meals were as kids, because so many times, we simply went hungry. We were very poor.
We looked forward to festivals and celebrations to enjoy a rare, good meal.
But we did not celebrate birthdays.
I do not share this to make you sad. I share this to make a point.
You will sometimes hear or see me say that life is simple. And it is. We are the ones who make it complicated. For me, not celebrating a birthday was not complicated. I just kept moving forward and taking the next step, looking for the next meal.
Simple.
For most everyone I know now that I live in Canada, it would be unthinkable not to know what your birthday is, or not to celebrate it. But to me, it simply didn’t matter. I did not let that stop me from moving forward. Once I discovered it was something I could celebrate, I did. But until that time, I just kept my life step. I just kept taking the next step.
When I am asked about food and meals, a lot of things come to mind. Some are painful memories, like watching my mother at night, knowing she did not have anything to eat. But this image fed me with a powerful desire to move forward so that I could one day take care of my parents.
And I did.
I do not regret that I did not celebrate many of my birthdays as a young boy. But I would have regretted not moving forward to bring my dreams to life.
I do not want to see you end up with regret either. And bringing your dreams to life is much simpler than we think. Get in touch with me today (visit https://www.coachrakesh.com) and I will help you to take the next step.
