The journey to the unknown begins…

I’m Rakesh Mishra, a motivational speaker and communications coach who helps families, communities, and cultures come together as ONE PLANET, ONE FAMILY.
How could a poor boy from a tiny village in India become a guy with a BIG VISION to help all the people in my family – all 8 billion of us! – create a world of harmony, freedom, and peace?
Simple…
If the why is big enough, and the what is clear enough,
the how becomes obvious.
When I tell you that I come from humble beginnings, I am not exaggerating. The oldest of 6 siblings, I was born in a tiny farming village in India. We had no electricity, no car, no money.

It was truly a life of survival–I had no experience of “better” but somehow, I could not help but dream of something more.
Little by little, I inched towards a better life. My love of learning turned into playing the “teacher” with my cousins. Playing turned into tutoring, my classmates. Tutoring turned into my first paying job (when I was still a child!)
I began to teach myself to speak English. I wondered about the world beyond my tiny village.
I followed my curiosity out of my village and into the big, wide world. I went from the one village of my entire life to a new city, then a new country and eventually to a new continent and a better life.
Along the way, I encountered people of all kinds who helped me.

- First, I must honor my mother, a lady of power and discipline who taught me by example to be kind and generous and compassionate and always to help others.
- When Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited my village, hearing her speak started a fire in my heart that would be realized decades later when I would become a motivational speaker myself.
- A chance meeting with a beautiful young American lady who happened to be holding two books blew my mind and changed my life. The two books were Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz.
- A kind stranger gave me clothes and a place to stay so that I could look and feel my best when I met my next challenge—finding a way not just to earn an education, but actually getting paid to educate myself!
- A helpful Sikh gentleman opened the door to a dream job in a new country, and my first taste of luxury.
- A friend who encouraged me to aim for North America, where I started a new career and then a new business, and had much success—I retired at 45!
- And the many people of all spiritual paths who showed up at just the right moment to help me take my next step.
Life was great. And then…

I had a lucrative career, a beautiful wife, a family, a home, a great life in a new country. It seemed life was good and only going to get better!
And then my wife died while giving birth to my second son.
When I say I know what it is to be truly lost, that, too, is not an exaggeration.
I was heartbroken—I could not imagine how to go on. I came so close to wanting to die myself. But I knew I could not leave my sons.
The next 3 years were the most difficult of my life. I did my best to care for my children on my own, but it was not easy.
One day my eldest son said to me, “Papa, you need a wife!”
He was just 7 years old, but so wise.
I know now that the choice to live was not only about choosing family but also about choosing myself.
A happy self makes a happy family possible.
I did get remarried, happily — and was blessed with a third son.
Happy self and happy family restored, I started thinking bigger again. This world has given enough to this poor farm boy from a tiny Indian village.

I remembered my mother’s advice to always help others. Time to start focusing on happy community.
How can I give back? I realized that every step of my journey has been helped by ASKING QUESTIONS!
It seems to me that people are often creating their own problems. I knew I could help them with that. My biggest question is…
We are one planet—why don’t we connect like one family?
I remembered how inspired I had been those many years ago when I heard Indira Gandhi speak. I could see myself on the stage in my mind, speaking to the audience. I found a speaking coach and I practiced and practiced and practiced until finally I won a competition. This was a dream come true!
Through this wild adventure of my life, I have discovered that I am a….
…natural teacher.
…gifted story-teller.
…inspiring coach.
That’s why I’d like to invite you to work
with me.
I will share with you inspiration and insight, thoughtful, motivating ideas, and wisdom gleaned from decades of experience.
I’ll show you the pathway to connection and harmony for families, cultures and communities.
With 20 years of experience as a motivational speaker and 7 years as a professional coach and teacher, my commitment is to help you discover a sense of belonging and meaningful connection so that you can enjoy rich, satisfying relationships with your family, community, and most importantly, yourself.
